Introducing Kulna @ Sentralen

On August 19, Kulna and PEN Norway brought together civic and cultural actors at Sentralen for an invitation-only conversation on the infrastructure Norway needs to respond to democratic erosion, global instability, and rapid technological change.

On August 19, Kulna and PEN Norway hosted an invitation-only lunch conversation at Sentralen in Oslo to introduce Kulna @ Sentralen, a new year-long civic and cultural program bringing together structural analysis, artistic expression, and civic participation.

The gathering brought together people involved in deciding what gets funded, hosted, published, and made visible in Norway's civic and cultural life. The conversation started from a practical question: how can Norway use its freedom, resources, and civic space to respond to democratic erosion, moral injury, global instability, and rapid change driven by AI?

During the event, we presented Kulna's framework, main projects, and upcoming program at Sentralen, including Fadaa, our cultural and civic platform for art, activism, storytelling, and access to space.

The presentation was followed by invited reflections and a focused roundtable on the civic and cultural infrastructure Norway needs now, including what kinds of spaces, ideas, partnerships, and institutions can help strengthen public courage, long-term thinking, and meaningful solidarity.

The event marked the beginning of Kulna @ Sentralen and an ongoing conversation with partners across Norway's civic and cultural landscape.
