Editorial letter from Ramy Essam
Ramy Essams journey and working towards a change that is so urgently needed. After the spring of revolution in Egypt and the region, the journey of fighting for change has often been lonely, heavy, and hard.
KULNA is a people’s platform, for the change that is so urgently needed. After the spring of revolution in Egypt and the region, the journey of fighting for change has often been lonely, heavy, and hard.
I carried that struggle for years, with all that came with it - the pain, the pressure, the responsibility, and the complex trauma that comes from standing against dictatorship and against cruel systems in this world. Then I met my colleagues in KULNA.Working with KULNA reminded me that I am not alone.
It reminded me that the dreams and ideas I have carried for so long are still possible. That when people who believe in justice, dignity, and a fair future for every human being come together, real change is possible. A better and more equal future for everyone can be built.Being part of KULNA has been one of the most empowering experiences of my life.
Sometimes I still find it hard to believe that this is real - that I get to work in an organisation that truly understands the hardship I carry, and supports me not only professionally, but as a human being. This work has shown me that our struggles are not obstacles. They are our expertise and our power to make change.
